What to do when Facebook is down
- Check Messenger separately from the main Facebook app, since messaging runs on its own service and can stay up while the News Feed fails.
- Try Facebook's lite mobile site at mbasic.facebook.com, which uses a simpler backend that sometimes stays reachable when the full app or desktop site does not.
- If you manage a Business Page or run ads, check Meta Business Suite separately, since Ads Manager and Page publishing can fail independently of personal Facebook.
- Check metastatus.com, which reports Facebook, Messenger, and the Facebook Login button used on third-party sites as distinct components.
Facebook alternatives to use in the meantime
While Facebook is unreachable, Messenger may still work for one-to-one chats since it can run semi-independently. For group coordination, WhatsApp or a Discord server are workable substitutes if your group is willing to switch platforms. If the outage is blocking third-party "Log in with Facebook" buttons, look for an email or Google sign-in option on that same site instead.
