About Google outages

Google Search is the backbone of the web for most users — genuine google.com outages are so rare that when search fails, the cause is almost always local: DNS, browser, or network trouble on the user’s side.

Google publishes official incident updates at its status page — worth checking alongside our live test above.

What to do when Google is down

  1. Try a Google service on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi to rule out a local router or ISP problem before suspecting Google's servers themselves.
  2. Test a specific property you rely on, such as Maps or Translate, individually, since these run on separate stacks and one can fail while others stay up.
  3. Clear your browser's cached data for google.com specifically, since a corrupted local cache can mimic a Google outage on a single browser only.
  4. Check the Google Workspace Status Dashboard for the exact product you are using, since it lists incidents per service rather than one blanket status.

Google alternatives to use in the meantime

If Google Search is unreachable, alternative engines such as Bing, DuckDuckGo, or Brave Search cover much of the same web and work as a direct substitute. For specific Google properties, Apple Maps or an OpenStreetMap-based app offers comparable navigation, and Workspace users can fall back to locally saved copies of documents until Docs or Drive recovers. Most of these alternatives need no account changes to try immediately.

Google FAQ

Google won’t load — is Google actually down?

Almost never. Google Search runs on globally redundant infrastructure, so google.com failing for you usually means a DNS, router, or ISP problem locally. If our external check reaches Google while you cannot, start by restarting your router or switching DNS servers.

Why do Gmail and Drive fail while Google Search works?

Google Workspace apps run on separate service stacks from Search, and Google tracks each on its Workspace status dashboard. A Workspace authentication incident can take out Gmail, Drive, and Docs together while Search remains completely unaffected.

Is Google down for everyone or just me?

We test Google (https://google.com) live from our own servers. If our check succeeds but you still can't connect, the outage is probably local to you — try another network or device, clear your cache, or check Google's official status channels.
