About Fortnite outages

Fortnite is Epic’s battle royale, and it goes down on purpose regularly: every season-ending live event and major patch involves planned downtime, on top of ordinary matchmaking incidents.

Fortnite publishes official incident updates at its status page — worth checking alongside our live test above.

What to do when Fortnite is down

  1. Check the in-game queue or server-status banner on the title screen, which shows an estimated wait time during post-downtime login surges instead of a flat error.
  2. Look at the Epic Games status page's Fortnite-specific component separately from Epic Online Services, since one can be degraded while the other stays healthy.
  3. Verify and repair the game files through the Epic Games Launcher if only your client fails to connect while others are already playing normally.
  4. If voice chat or party invites fail but matches load fine, that points to Epic's friends and party service rather than the game servers themselves.

Fortnite alternatives to use in the meantime

During a Fortnite outage, other free-to-play battle royale games such as Apex Legends or Call of Duty: Warzone run on separate publishers' infrastructure and offer a similar fix in the meantime. Fortnite's own Creative mode servers sometimes recover before core Battle Royale matchmaking does, so checking mode by mode is worth it before switching games entirely. There is no offline substitute for Fortnite's multiplayer modes specifically.

Fortnite FAQ

Why is Fortnite down right now — is it an update?

Fortnite schedules downtime for every big patch and season launch, usually announced in advance on Epic’s channels with queues returning over a few hours. Unscheduled failures show as "waiting in queue" or matchmaking errors on Epic’s status page.

What does "Fortnite servers not responding" mean?

That error means your client reached Epic but the game-server fleet did not answer — typical during login storms right after downtime ends. Waiting a few minutes and retrying beats rebooting, since the bottleneck is on Epic’s side.

Is Fortnite down for everyone or just me?

We test Fortnite (https://fortnite.com) live from our own servers. If our check succeeds but you still can't connect, the outage is probably local to you — try another network or device, clear your cache, or check Fortnite's official status channels.
